RUN LIBRARY MIGRATES TO KOHA

In August, 2011 RUN Library migrates its bibliographic records from the former Portal systems to Koha Integrated Library systems. Koha is an open source software which has capacity to support the main operations and services of the library.

RUN Library was attracted to the system because of its wide adoption amongst Nigerian library community. This was considered a major plus because the library would have opportunity to compare notes with other libraries using the software. Another attraction to the system is its seamless integration of the modules. With this attribute, data would only be entered once and viewed in all other modules.

Similarly, Koha is user friendly and users need little training to use the system. Just like any other web-based resource, it is self-instructive and highly flexible. Koha is Web 2.0 compliant, hence very interactive and supportive of social networking like Facebook and Twitter do. To cap it all, Koha requires no subscription and no special training.

All library records are now accessible through the new library management system.Users are enjoined to access the records at http:/10.16.7.3/opac to view the library catalog.  The catalog supports both basic and advanced searching, using parameters like title, author and publishers to mention but a few. Likewise, it is possible to search by format of information and storage medium. Presently, there are about 483 e-books in various disciplines uploaded to the system that can be read in full text.

Visit the site today and enjoy library services in a better dimension. For more inquiries, contact Mr. A. A. Adeleke in the library on intercom number 3907.

EBSCOHost Subscription Expires May 31, 2011

RUN Library’s subscription to EBSCOHost databases would expire on May 31, 2011.  The library plans to suspend subscriptions renewal till August 2011when a better deal would be struck with EBSCOHost owners through the NULIB Consortium.  This arrangement promises to reduce subscriptions cost and to provide access to more subject databases than we have presently.

In the light of this, the library implores its patrons to use the databases as much as they can before the subscription expires.  The library also regrets any inconvenience this development might cause patrons.
